This homemade hot chocolate pantry mix is one of those simple staples I always keep on hand and honestly, it’s one of my favorites too. It stores well, mixes up quickly, and is one of the first things my kids reach for when they want something warm and comforting.
Why Make It Homemade?
I like knowing exactly what goes into our food, especially treats. Making hot chocolate from scratch means no artificial flavors, no unnecessary fillers, and control over source and amount of sugar. Every ingredient is chosen on purpose.
Quality cocoa powder for a rich chocolate flavor
Controlled sweetness so it’s not overpowering
Milk powder or dairy-free option for creaminess without extra steps
A pinch of salt to balance and deepen the chocolate flavor
The result is a smooth, satisfying cup that tastes indulgent without being loaded with junk. And let’s be real—there’s just no comparison to store-bought hot chocolate once you’ve had it this way.
A True Kid Favorite
This mix is requested often after playing outside, on cold mornings, or as an afternoon treat. I love that it’s something I can say yes to, knowing it’s made with ingredients I trust. It’s also simple enough for older kids to prepare on their own, which makes it even more practical.
A Practical Pantry Staple
Stored in an airtight jar, this hot chocolate mix is ready whenever we need it. It’s great for everyday use, cozy evenings, or even gifting during the holidays. Having mixes like this in the pantry saves time, reduces store trips, and adds a little comfort to ordinary days.
Simple ingredients. Easy prep. A cozy chocolatey favorite the whole family enjoys!
