Onions and colds?

Another nugget

Lately I have been getting asked alot about what I would do for congestion. Most peoples go- to is vicks vapor rub and many have NO idea that you should NOT put this on your kids. Besides the fact that camphor is toxic, vicks actually stimulates mucus, which in little kids especially, is not what you want. Sometimes Their airways and “drainage” cannot expell it all and they can die.

“This is just what I do. Not medical advice”...

My son always seemed very affected in the lungs if he ever got sick. I can remember laying by his bed worrying, listening to him breathe because he was so congested. I had seen this “recipe”and he was so sick one time that he was desparate to try anything. I made it for him and It really worked well! Even to this day if he is bad he will ask for it or make it for himself.

Take an onion and clove of garlic just cover them with water in the blender. Blend really fine and then let it set for about 10 minutes. Then strain and mix honey in the juice to sweeten then sip and drink. If you had to you could add more water, but the more concentrated the better because you will get more in. Just keep adding honey until its tolerable. It is amazing how well it breaks up the congestion.

So why onions?

“Recent research indicates that onions contain quercetin, a bioflavonoid that has been used to treat and protect against cataracts, heart disease, and cancer.[1] Other research indicates that onions have anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties, as well as being useful in upper respiratory infections. For congestion of various types and for upper respiratory infections, one of the easiest ways to use onions to help speed recovery is to use a poultice made from onions.” - https://www.wikihow.com/Make-and-Use-an-Onion-Poultice-for-Congestion
